You can save a lot of money from keeping foods right so they won’t get spoiled easily. You might think that the best thing you can do is to keep your fridge super cool so you will have them always fresh. But often times you will still find some spoiled foods since they totally skipped your mind. Before you know it, you are spending more money on foods that are mere displays on your fridge.
To avoid wasting money on foods that you are in fact not eating, you can follow these wise strategies:
1) Prepare a list of food items to buy when you are going to the supermarket. Only buy food items that you are going to consume for the whole week if you do grocery shopping on a weekly basis. It would be better to come up with this list based on meal plans that you created for your family. A meal plan will not only ensure that you can buy the food items and ingredients that you need but also ensure that you have a balanced diet.
2) Provide a list for some food items that are running out of supply in your kitchen. This will let you replenish them accordingly with no sweat. Also it will prevent you from buying supplies that are still abundant in your kitchen. Most of the kitchen clutter comes from this.
3) Always provide a proper storage for food items whether in your fridge or at the pantry. You can use color coding but the most effective of all is labeling the containers.
4) Don’t buy food items that you are still going to use for the next season or holiday. This will take space I your kitchen and it’s more likely that you won’t be able to use them. If they are given to you as gifts, you can share them with others as well. They might find the best use of it. Or you can look for a dear friend who may have some culinary talent to concoct a special dish for you both.
These are simple home food organization techniques but you are sure to benefit from it in the long run.
