Clutter like many things at home is inevitable. There is however a way to cut back on it and that is to declutter it regularly and come up with an organization system. It doesn’t have to be really extravagant or complicated.
Here is one great suggestion that might just work for you:
Provide four labeled boxes in significant areas of your home. These boxes should be labeled “Storage,” “Give Away,” “Put Away” and of course the big “Trash.” These boxes would call for you to decide on items that make up the clutter. You can place items you are sending to charity on the “Give Away” box. For those items which you think will be in good use in the next season or so, you can place it in “Storage.” “Put Away” is for those items that you use every now and then but have no designated places to put them. This box should be placed in an area that’s highly accessible.
In fact, accessibility is another factor to consider when you are trying to organize items at home, particularly for those stuff that you get to use every often.
The Right Attitude
In decluttering, you also need the right attitude to do it. You should have that Just Declutter It attitude. Procrastination is one of the worst hindrances you must face, especially when you’re so used to living with the clutter. But not for long, you’ll realize how things become much easier to deal with when they are organized.
The Right Principles
Don’t bite more than you can chew.
Do things one at a time and give it your all. You must face it. You can’t declutter the whole house in just one weekend. So you better start in one room and move on to the next. In that way, you have a work of art that’s of real value.
It’s not the be all and end all.
Decluttering requires maintenance. Once you have everything in order at home, you have to keep it that way. So when everything is in their proper place, you make it a point that every member of your family does his share by returning stuff to their right places. That’s just one.
There’s no fixed solution to every declutter concern at home, but you can surely find a way to organize things on your own, if not with professional help. But that’s just another story…
