It takes lots of time and effort to be well organized. There is a
lot to remember if you want to be well organized. Below are a few
good tips to help you remember it all:
1.Write it down.
With all the many details that you have to remember in any given day, why should you try to keep it all in a memory bank? What you store in your head will not be there at the time you need it. This happens all the time. If you plan on accomplishing a certain task at any given time, you will forget as you’re doing something else at that moment. My advice to you is that at the very moment that you remember something needs to be done, the very best thing to do is to write it down. Then, just as you need to recall it, it will be there for you in an instant.
2.Keep it all in the same place.
Once you’ve developed the habit of writing everything down (yes it’s a habit– learn it), your next step will be to keep all that writing in one place. It’ll be much easier for you to remember this way. Otherwise you’re going to spend valuable time searching for your notes. I don’t think you’d want that.
3.Stay healthy.
What does staying healthy have to do with staying organized? Well a keen memory is a well-nourished mind. So… eat healthy, get plenty of rest and lots of good exercise. Theses will all see you through to having a good memory, staying focused and being alert.
4.Record your thoughts.
You never know when a good idea about organizing might pop up in your head or you might remember something that you really need to write down. There are many ways to record things and I’ll let you come up with interesting ideas like using a notebook, or a smart phone or a voice recorder. I use my cell phone feel free to use whatever you’d like but remember that you need to carry it with you pretty much at all times. Use your recorder to be your second set of eyes and ears.
5.Call ahead.
When you are at the office or shopping and you want to do something when you arrive back home, call ahead to your answering machine and leave a message. As soon as you get home you can listen to your messages and hear yourself telling you that forgot to do what it is you were planning to do.
6.Be confident in yourself.
Be confident, be sure of yourself. If you continue telling yourself that you have a bad memory, you will probably continue to have a bad memory. It is very important to have a motivated, I CAN REMEMBER attitude.
7.Handy Email reminders.
There are many good and free e-mail reminder services available. You can type in what you want to remember, such as an anniversary, welcome party or any type of special event and you will receive a reminder when the date is approaching. This is a great way to jog your memory by Internet.
8.Use sticky notes.
Those wonderful, little sticky notes are the next best thing to whatever the previous best thing was! They are amazing as memory helpers. Want to remember something prior to leaving your home? Just mark it down on a Post-It Note and stick itto the inside of your door. The bright, neon colors will be great to catch your eye as you are leaving. You will not likely miss it!Need to make an urgent call first thing in the morning? Leave aPost-It Note on your telephone.
9.Use timers and alarms.
This is very important for focus and time management. You want to take advantage of alarm clocks and timers throughout your day. Have to take the clothes out of the dryer by 12 noon? Set your alarm clock to remind you. Want to leave for the ladies luncheon by 7 pm.? Set your timer to beep a few minutes before it is time to start to get ready. Did you only schedule one hour for your organizing session? Set your timer for an hour and only focus on organizing during that hour.
10.Visual memory joggers.
Visual reminders will help you remember and stay focused. Use visual reminders for remembering your goals. If your goal is to take a trip to a Ireland in a few years, keep a magazine photograph of Ireland right on your desk. If your goal is to lose 30 lbs. in six months, find a picture or ornament that will help remind you of this goal each day.
